RESOLUTIONS
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) met in Bamenda on 28 August 2004, under the chairmanship of the National Chairman, NI John FRU NDI, to examine issues concerning the party, the national and international scenes and took the following resolutions.
I. ON THE PARTY:
- Considering the Constitution and the Internal Regulations of the SDF;
- Considering the resolutions of the Yaounde 1999 and the Bamenda 2001 Conventions of the Party;
- Considering previous NEC resolutions;
- Considering the impending Presidential election in Cameroon;
- Considering the report of the Djuombi Sango commission on reconciliation in the West;
- Considering the report of the Nyo’Wakai commission on the SDF Reconciliation Forum;
- Considering the report of Barrister Sama Francis on reconciliation in Boyo;
- Considering the report from the Provincial Executive Committee of the East;
- Considering the report on the conference of SDF-UK;
THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
- Decides, in conformity with section 12.2a of the constitution of the party, to convene on 11 September 2004, a Convention to select a presidential candidate;
- Takes note of the reconciliation efforts in the West;
- Salutes the efforts of the national commission for the organisation of the reconciliation Forum of the SDF for the work done so far and calls on it to present its final report as soon as possible;
- Salutes the efforts made by protagonists in the West towards a sincere and durable reconciliation;
- Calls on the Djoumbi Sango commission to get more involved in moving the reconciliation exercise to a happy conclusion;
- Salutes the efforts of Barrister Sama, Hon. Jua Paulinus and the Mayors of Boyo for an effective reconciliation between the elected representatives of Boyo Division;
- Receives the report of the Provincial Executive Committee of the East and takes note of the provisional executive put in place, under the presidency of Mr. Kogmo Ngo Victor with Mr. Samaki Hamman Justin as vice-president;
- Calls on the former provincial Chairperson to hand over the property of the party to the new team, without further delay;
- Directs the new team to find definitive solution to the problem of cautions for the twin elections of June 2004;
- Congratulates SDF-UK for the tremendous job it is doing;
- Decides to raise SDF-UK to a Province.
II. ON THE NATIONAL SCENE:
- Considering the odious murder of Comrade John Kohtem, Electoral District Chairman of SDF Balikumbat;
- Considering the imminence of the presidential election;
- Considering the activities of the Coalition for National Reconciliation and Reconstruction;
THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
- Vehemently condemns the murder in cold blood of Mr. John Kohtem following a dispute with the Fon Doh Gah Gwanyin III, MP and Mayor of Balikumbat and member of the Central Committee of the CPDM, at a meeting in Ndop, Chaired by the Governor of the North West Province;
- Decides to publish a special resolution on the murder;
- Salutes the show of solidarity across the nation following the murder;
- Calls on the authorities concerned to immediately arrest and punish the true murderers of Mr. Kohtem;
- Reaffirms the attachment of the SDF to the Coalition;
- Informs partners and the general public that the candidate of the SDF will be presented to the Coalition for the choice of the common candidate;
- Adds its voice to the call of the Coalition to the Head of State to use his powers of arbitration to ensure the proper functioning of the electoral process.
III. ON THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE:
- Considering the refusal of the Embassy of Cameroon in Paris to issue entry visas for Mr. Guy Labertit and Mr. Ambroise Pierre of the Jean Jaurès Foundation in Paris;
- Considering the recent 2004 Olympics in Athens;
THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
- Once more vehemently condemns this umpteenth refusal of entry visas to friends of the SDF by Embassies of Cameroon across the world;
- Considers these abuses and violations as manoeuvres to hide something, thus, further tarnishing the image of Cameroon abroad;
- Regrets that these other refusals once more caused the cancellation of an SDF/Jean Jaurès Foundation seminar titled: “Democracy and the electoral process in Africa – what strategies to ensure transparent elections?”;
- Solicits the indulgence of Jean Jaurès Foundation for all the embarrassment they suffered from these practices of a totalitarian regime that has a phobia for transparent elections;
- Congratulates the Olympics Movement for the solidarity and friendship shown during the 2004 Olympics;
- Warmly congratulates our compatriot, Françoise Mbango for her brilliant performance during the recent Athens Olympics.
