RESOLUTIONS

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) met in Bamenda on February 8, 2003 under the chairmanship of the National Chairman, NI JOHN FRU NDI to examine issues concerning the party, the national and international scenes and took the following resolutions.

I. ON THE PARTY

• Considering the Constitution and the Internal Regulations of the SDF;
• Considering the resolutions of the Yaounde 1999 and the Bamenda 2001 conventions of the Party;
• Considering previous NEC resolutions;
• Considering the reports of the National Financial Secretary and of the Provincial Chairpersons;
• Considering the reports of the NEC commissions to the field;

THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:

• Announces the presence of membership cards for the year 2003 in the field;
• Decides to split the Divisional Coordination of Nkam into Nkam I and Nkam II and of Noun into Noun I and Noun II, because of the vastness and difficulty of the terrain;
• Accepts the reports of the evaluation commissions sent to the structures of the party;
• Decides to send teams to the field in the near future to organise and revamp certain structures of the party;
• Adopts the Yudom Commission report on the resolution of the conflict in the Kumba Electoral District;
• Decides to postpone the elective Provincial Conference of France to April 12, 2003;
• Congratulates SDF- Europe for its federating activities and encourages them to continue to work together to contribute to the struggle for change in our country;
• Decides to readmit Mr. Daouda Ousmanou to the SDF;

II. ON THE NATIONAL SCENE:

• Considering the electoral process in the country, especially the registration of voters;
• Considering the fatal accident at Ebomb้ on the Douala – Yaounde road;
• Considering the rising insecurity in Buea and other towns in Cameroon;
• Considering the shortages of basic commodities in the country;
• Considering the mafia instituted in the privatisation of public and para-public enterprises to rob the nation of its patrimony;
• Considering the up-coming Youth Day;
• Considering the start of the Football season in the country;

THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:

• Decides to publish a special release on the registration of voters;
• Regrets the fatal accident that occurred at Ebomb้ and others that have occurred since then;
• Sends our condolence and compassion to the bereaved families;
• Decides to publish a special release on the present chaos in the country, in which this unfortunate issue is addressed;
• Calls on the CPDM government to make roads in the country safer by expanding and maintaining them regularly, and removing corruption in activities related to road transport, road construction and maintenance and the award of contracts;
• Regrets that the general insecurity in the country has extended to University residential quarters, especially in Buea University;
• Decides to address this issue in a separate release on the chaos in the country;
• Calls on government to seriously combat rising insecurity in the country;
• Calls on government to build University campuses worthy of the name;
• Regrets the general shortages of basic commodities in the country;
• Decides to address this serious issue in a separate release on the chaos in the country;
• Regrets that the general lack of foresight and ineptitude of the CPDM government is the central cause of the shortages;
• Once more vehemently condemns the mafia that the CPDM regime has put in place to rob the nation of its patrimony in the process of privatisation;
• Calls on the CPDM government to publish the names of all the foreign and local partners that have successfully bought the privatised companies in Cameroon;
• Wishes the Cameroonian youths a happy Youth Day as they celebrate the 37th edition of the Youth Day;
• Calls on all Cameroonians to use the occasion to remember the important historic event of the plebiscite of 11 February 1961 during which English speaking Cameroonians voted massively to have their independence by joining their French speaking brothers;
• Welcomes the start of the new Football season in Cameroon;
• Encourages the football authorities to exercise fair-play so that football competition can lead to the strengthening of friendship and understanding between our different regions;
• Wishes all the Clubs involved in the various competitions success during the season;

III. ON THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE:

• Considering the crisis in C๔te d’Ivoire;
• Considering the Irak crisis;
• Considering the recent elections in Kenya;

THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

• Vehemently condemns the failed coup plotters in C๔te d’Ivoire that have brought chaos to the country and seriously compromised the culture of democratic alternance that was being built in the country;
• Congratulates the Ivorian people for accepting dialogue over war for the resolution of their problems;
• Encourages them to continue to overcome all difficulties on the road to lasting peace in their country using the same instrument;
• Once more vehemently condemns terrorism in all its forms;
• Encourages the vigorous fight at the international level against terrorism and states that perpetrate it; • Encourages the international community to ensure that the fight is based on justice and hard facts in order to prevent actions and counter-actions that only increase the state of insecurity in the world and bring untold suffering to innocent populations;
• Congratulates the Kenyan people for their success in bringing democratic alternance in their country;
• Congratulates former President Daniel Arap Moi for respecting the laws of his country and making this alternance possible;
• Warmly congratulates President Mwai Kibaki for his brilliant election as President of the Republic of Kenya;
• Encourages African Heads of State to imitate the bold action of President Moi to preserve peace and justice in his country;
• Calls on African opposition leaders, especially in Cameroon not to fail to learn the lesson of the Kenyan opposition.

The next NEC meeting will hold in Bamenda on April 5, 2003. The meeting of the Provincial chairpersons, NEC Commission Chairpersons and Heads of various departments of the party shall precede it on April 4.
