Youths in Cameroon on Monday 11th February 2002
celebrate the 36th anniversary of youth day. By the
grace of God, these celebration coincided with the
victory of the Indomitable Lions, our National
Football team at the African Cup of Nations. A victory
obtained through a very hard struggle on the eve of
the 11th February in Bamako, Mali after defeating the
Senegalese Lions.
As usual, the President of the Republic delivered
another message to the youths. Mr Biya’s government,
his party the CPDM, with the help of the public media,
have taken these successes hostage, (worthy of all
tropical Dictatorships) to pretend that the New Deal
regime is succeeding. What a shame!
It is no a secret to anyone that these fantastic
successes of our boys for some years now are due
mainly to two factors.
Firstly, the potential Wealth, Dynamism and
Nationalism, of our Youths that no one has ever
subdued.
Secondly, the birth of the phenomenon of Football
School throughout the country, thanks solely to
Private initiatives.
Glaring proof of the resignation of this government,
is the disastrous state of our Sports Infrastructure
and the misery of our sports clubs.
Concerning our youths in general, their main problems
now are : Education, Unemployment, AIDS and the
Uncertainty of their future.
As far as Education is concerned, we know that our
system has completely collapsed, and destroyed the
training of our youths. In his speech, the President
of the republic said he had given some computer to two
secondary high schools in Yaounde, while recalling
that a few schools had been constructed by a Friendly
Country and a few texts signed by the Minister of
National Education, even if none of these texts have
been implemented till date.
On the painful problem of unemployment and lack of
jobs for the youths, the President of the Republic
promised providing jobs but ‘in a few year time’.
On the AIDS pandemic, despite terrifying statistics
(about 45% of the population infected, 80% of these
being Youths) the President did not as much as mention
the name HIV/AIDS.
On the uncertainties for the future of our your in a
country with NO Democracy, NO Rule of Law, buried in
Corruption, tribalism and with an endless Economic
Crisis, the Head of State does not seen to worry much
about this.
He advises youths in the form of threats to know their
rights and duties and to vote wisely not specifying at
which elections.
These are some of the reasons why the SDF since its
launching in 1990 promised to bring back the youths to
the right track by introducing real democracy. The SDF
will continue to condemn this continuous contempt of
the youths by Mr BIYA and his regime.
The SDF confirms its determination to continue the
struggle to promote a society of Democracy, Progress,
Respect of Moral Values and of Solidarity. The SDF
therefore invites all Youths to fully invest in their
studies, while accomplishing their civic duties if
they are of voting age, by registering in the
electoral lists and getting ready to vote and fight
electoral fraud by all means.
The SDF also invites them not to be discouraged or
fall prey to drugs, feymania and prostitution.
This is why the SDF gave a strong signal last Saturday
at the last NEC meeting, when it dismissed from the
party a member of Parliament who two weeks ago, was
reported to have been involved in drug trafficking in
France. The SDF went as far as requesting the National
Assembly to uplift his Parliamentary Immunity and ask
the Courts to take up the case.
The SDF invites all the other Political Parties and in
particular the CPDM to do the same. After all, we all
know that the CPDM is a hiding place for drug
traffickers, feymen, gangsters an other economic
delinquents of this country.
Before we go, we would like to heartily congratulated
the Indomitable Lions on their brilliant victory. We
wish all Youth a wonderful feast and to the Prime
Minster of Cameroon a very quick recovery.
See you in two weeks on TV, but do not forget we are
on the Radio next week Friday for your announcements.
Do send them to the SDF Communication Office in
Yaounde.
