Very Urgent
Mr. Charles NKWANYUO, Secretary of the Victoria Electoral District of the SDF, Limbe was arrested yesterday 1st April, 1996 and is being detained in the Gendarmerie Brigade, Limbe.
Our Attorney in Limbe tells us that he is being accused of "reviving the SDF in Limbe". This is a very serious development for the SDF is a legalised political Party and at least to our knowledge, has not been banned. So to arrest and detain an SDF Party official for "reviving the SDF" goes beyond comprehension.
The SDF vehemently protests against this senseless act of utmost provocation and demands his immediate release.
The SDF calls on all political Parties, all democratic forces in the country to condemn in no mistakable terms and oppose this new step of the Biya regime towards unprecedented harsh dictatorship.
The SDF appeals to all Human Rights Organisations, all Friends of Cameroon and all Democratic forces the World over to condemn this barbaric act and demand the immediate release of Mr. Charles NKWANYUO and all other persons (SDF militants and ordinary citizens) who are being arbitrarily arrested and held in administrative detention since the municipal elections. The Administration should stop the harrassment of SDF militants and those of all legalised Political Parties all over the National territory.
If not resolutely checked, the Biya regime is surely going to plunge Cameroon into a turmoil of distrastrous consequences.
