PRESS RELEASE NO. 4
The Social Democratic Front wishes to announce the successful launching of the Party on Saturday the 26th day of May 1990 at 2 p.m. at Ntarikon Park Bamenda before a huge crowd of adherents and supporters who came from all over the Country.
The SDF wishes to thank the population which came out in large numbers despite the many tactics employed by the Government to intimidate, dissuade and scare them away from the Launching Rally.
The SDF however, regrets to announce the unfortunate incident caused by the Forces of Law and Order which resulted in the shooting and killing of six innocent citizens and the shooting and wounding of several others after the launching of the SDF.
We have been reliably informed that elements of the National Gendarmerie were directly responsible for this unnecessary and unjustified loss of life.
The SDF plans at a more convenient time to give these martyrs of Democracy a befitting funeral.
The SDF takes this opportunity to extend its deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the deceased and will like to assure them that the blood of the dead did not flow for nothing, the struggle for Democracy for which they gave their lives continues.
