CODE OF CONDUCT FOR SDF PUBLIC ELECTED OFFICIALS

In conformity with the manifesto and constitution of the Social Democratic Front as well as such democratic laws and regulations that may be enacted to govern the institutions of the State, and in discharging the people's mandate bestowed on me as a bearer of the SDF standard, I hereby pledge to conduct myself as follows:

1. I shall scrupulously respect the people as the source of the power which I am called upon to exercise democratically in their interest.
2. I am a servant called upon to serve the entire public without discrimination whatsoever based on race, ethnic origin, linguistic distinctions, religion, sex or some other dehumanising factors.
3. I shall fight energetically any temptation to act as a master and to treat people with arrogance and abuse.
4. While pursuing individual excellence in my efforts and performance, collective responsibility shall be my guiding principle.
5. I shall faithfully carry out my Party's policies together with its strategies and tactics as they apply to my local situation.
6. I shall uphold the principles of good governance and ensure in particular:
   1. a participatory and consultative approach to decision-making;
   2. the respect of human rights;
   3. the rule of law, and
   4. democratic practices.
7. I shall fight to ensure that transparency and accountability prevail in the discharge of my responsibilities. In this vein, I shall wage a merciless war against the evils plaguing public life in our society including grafts, stealing, embezzlement, mismanagement, corruption, nepotism, tribalism, ethnocentrism, etc.
8. If need be, I shall willing submit within the ambit of the law, to a public audit my accounts and properties wherever they may be found. Any ill-gotten wealth may be disposed of in the interest of the public.
9. In all my public actions, the well-being of the people and the society shall be my ultimate goal.
10. I shall not abuse the confidence put in me in handling the different kinds of information entrusted to me for the purpose of carrying out my duties.
11. I stand to lose my seat in the deliberative body to which I was elected on the SDF ticket if I resign or lose my membership of the SDF.
12. It is my bounden duty, as a faithful SDF member, to ensure that the people who possess the sovereign power participate fully in the governance of their affairs in keeping with the SDF slogan, "Power to the People".
