Wum rural council awards 35 scholarships to its pupils, college and university students

The mayor of the Wum rural council, Cheng Edward has announced the award of 35 scholarships to sons and daughters of the municipality at various levels.

Ten partial scholarships shall be awarded to students of Wum municipality origin pursuing studies in any of the following areas in any university in Cameroon and Africa. Civil/chemical engineering; medicines/pharmacology; surveys, town planning and architecture; women and gender studies, agricultural/veterinary medicines and computer sciences.

Interested students are required to apply in writing with a 200 frs communal stamp, a photocopy of birth certificate, a certified copy of admission letter into university and a copy of the results for 2002-2003 academic year. According to mayor Cheng, selection of candidates shall be done by an enlarged social affairs committee of Wum rural council in July 2003.

Meanwhile, partial scholarships shall also be awarded to the best 25 all round students of the municipality in forms 2, Lower Sixth form (1st year for GTTC) next academic year. All students with an average of 12/20 and above could apply in their own hand writing with a 200frs communal stamp, a photocopy of their birth certificate and a copy of their results for the 2002/2003 academic year duly certified by the principal.

Mayor Cheng also disclosed that students with higher averages will equally benefit from holiday jobs.

For primary school children, 10 scholarships for the ten best pupils of Wum municipality origin in this year’s common entrance examination into commercial/secondary/technical colleges and five scholarships for the five best Fulani/Aku girls in the same examination will also be awarded.
