CPDM Mayor Campaigns for the SDF
By Michael Ndi in Kumbo Sassouang Hirihiri, mayor of CPDM run Zina rural council in the North province has urged the Kumbo population to maintain Njong Donatus at the helm of Kumbo urban council.. Acknowledging Njong’s hardwork and reputed leadership in piloting the affairs of Kumbo urban council, Sassouang said although they were of different political parties, they had no option but to come and learn from their colleague Njong. He further added “we have discovered much out here and pray that you people give him another chance and see what he will do for you people”. Accompanied by Zigla Wandi, mayor of the NUDP controlled Maga rural council still from the North, Sassouang recently paid a two-day visit to Kumbo. The two mayors were sponsored to Kumbo by the Netherlands Development Cooperation with the objective of learning from the Kumbo urban council’s development projects in a bid to implement in their respective councils. Some workers of the Netherlands Development Cooperation came along with the mayors to Kumbo. While in Kumbo the delegation visited the Kumbo urban council’s Young Entrepreneur Scheme (YES) projects introduced by the council in collaboration with the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) to create employment opportunities for youths. The visit equally coincided with the inauguration of the multi-purpose Kumbo urban council public toilet. Marvelled by Njong’s achievements, the mayors from the North said the Kumbo people were very blessed to have a dynamic and hardworking mayor like Njong who has to be maintained. During the inauguration of the multipurpose toilet comprised of a police post, showers and other offices, Njong declared that it was intended to serve the entire population of Kumbo without discrimination. Stating the purpose of the toilet, Njong said “our wish is to ensure that people do not litter our town with excreta and urine”. In this vein, he called on the entire population to make maximum use of the toilets, urinaries and most especially the showers. The Herald, 3/12/01
