Zoa Council awards scholarships to Fungom students
Zhoa rural council in Menchum division has paid out 1 million FCFA as scholarship to some 117 students of Fungom origin, in secondary schools all over the national territory. Beginning the award exercise recently at Esu fon’s palace in the presence of Fon Buh II, GSS Esu principal, Fombe Daniel and curious parents, Zhoa rural council mayor, Komando Nji Simon, said the gesture was intended to assist parents in their efforts in educating their children. He said it was his council’s intention to encourage education and reward academic excellence in Fungom sub-division. Komando urged the benefitting students to study even harder as they were future leaders of Cameroon. Appreciating the gesture, Fon Buh II of Esu thanked the mayor and his council and prayed that the scholarship scheme be made a continuous programme. He urged his subjects to assist the council in its activites so as to make the scheme feasible. The traditional ruler while congratulating the laureates, also challenged them to work even harder, be disciplined and of good morals. For his part GSS Esu principal Fombe Daniel while receiving 193.000FCFA on behalf of 30 students of his school said the gesture was timely. He said the scholarship award will produce positive competition amongst the students. According to Kah Amos, chairman of the scholarship award committee, over 420 applications had to be screened. At the end of the exercise 117 students were selected from post primary institutions in Cameroon. The Herald 01/10/01
